This letter was written by the wife of James Lawes to the mother of W. J. Hemp, an archaeologist who visited them, or possibly stayed with them, while he was working on the excavation of Roman Silchester. In it she thanks Mrs Hemp for some presents.

The letter was folded, so the right hand 'page' is the first, the left hand 'page' is the last. The reverse image gives 'pages' two and three.
