A brief history of the distinguished General, Sir Eyre Coote, can be found in E. H. Lane Poole's book 'Damerham and Martin'. The General died in India in 1784. His wife, Lady Coote, managed the estate until it was handed over to the General's heir, the second General Eyre Coote, in 1812.
