- In the early 17th century Joseph Reade of Martin married Jane Garrett, heiress of Alderholt Park. The marriage consolidated Reade and Garrett property in Martin into the largest copyhold in the village. Their son, George, inherited the copyholds which passed to his daughter, Eleanor. She married Matthias T. Hodding who was the chief copyholder in the village at the time this map was created.
